Daytona Beach Christian University is proud to announce Coach Brad Fraser as the new Head Men’s Basketball Coach for the Seraphim!

Coach Fraser brings more than 40 years of basketball coaching, leadership, and mentorship experience to DBCU and arrives with a distinguished history of building successful programs and developing student-athletes into leaders on and off the court.

Throughout his coaching career, Coach Fraser has led programs across Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina, and Florida, establishing a reputation for discipline, player development, and competitive excellence. Among his many accomplishments was leading Christian County High School (KY) to one of the most memorable victories in state history when his team upset USA Today’s No. 7-ranked University Heights Academy in postseason tournament play—widely considered one of the greatest upsets in Kentucky basketball history.

Beyond the high school level, Coach Fraser founded and directed a successful AAU basketball program in Evansville, Indiana, helping launch the careers of numerous collegiate and professional players. Under his leadership, the program produced NBA lottery selections Calbert Cheaney and Walter McCarty, along with twelve additional Division I athletes.

Cheaney went on to become one of the most decorated players in college basketball history at the Indiana University, earning both the Wooden Award and Naismith Award while becoming the all-time leading scorer in Big Ten history. McCarty starred at the University of Kentucky and capped his career with an NCAA National Championship.

Coach Fraser’s impact has reached far beyond wins and championships. Numerous former players have entered coaching themselves, including Chris Lowery, former head coach at Southern Illinois University and current Associate Head Coach at Northwestern University.

“Coach Fraser brings wisdom, experience, and a true teacher’s heart to DBCU,” said Vice President of Athletics Andros Desir. “Very few coaches can point to four decades of developing athletes, building programs, and impacting lives the way Coach Fraser has. We believe his leadership will help establish the culture and foundation for Men’s Basketball as we continue building DBCU Athletics.”

Coach Fraser and his wife, Maria, have been married for 43 years and are blessed with two children, Meghan and Tyler, along with their grandchildren Daniel and Kate.

Coach Fraser’s vision for DBCU Basketball reflects the heart of his coaching journey:

“Basketball is a vehicle to teach discipline, faith, leadership, and perseverance—because the greatest victories happen long after the final buzzer sounds.”

Brandon Raines

Assistant Coach, Associate Athletic Director

Daytona Beach Christian University is excited to welcome Brandon Raines as our new Associate Athletic Director and Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach!

Coach Raines brings a diverse background in athletics, education, leadership, recruiting, and student development to DBCU Athletics. Throughout his career, he has served as a teacher, mentor, recruiter, athletic director, and coach—building programs while investing deeply in the lives of student-athletes.

Prior to joining DBCU, Coach Raines spent seven years at Riverside Christian School where he served as Athletic Director and Head Basketball Coach. During his tenure, he launched the school’s basketball program and helped transform it into a competitive and championship-caliber program while overseeing broader athletic growth and student development initiatives.

A former standout player and valedictorian at Melody Christian Academy, Coach Raines continued his collegiate career at the University of West Florida before transferring to Trinity Baptist College, where he became a national champion, team captain, and respected leader. His playing experience shaped a coaching style centered around servant leadership, competitiveness, and team-first culture.

Beyond coaching, Coach Raines has become widely respected for his recruiting work, helping student-athletes from smaller communities navigate the collegiate process and secure opportunities to continue their academic and athletic careers. His passion for opening doors and mentoring young people aligns strongly with the mission of DBCU.

“Brandon brings a unique combination of coaching experience, recruiting expertise, athletic administration, and servant leadership to DBCU,” said Vice President of Athletics Andros Desir. “He understands how to build programs, mentor student-athletes, and create culture. More importantly, he genuinely cares about people. We believe he will play a major role in helping shape the future of DBCU Athletics.”

As Associate Athletic Director, Coach Raines will assist in program oversight, fundraising, marketing initiatives, coach development, student-athlete leadership, and departmental growth while also serving alongside the men’s basketball program.

Coach Raines’ vision reflects the heart of DBCU Athletics:

“Success is not simply measured by wins, but by the people we develop, the relationships we build, and the legacy we leave through service, leadership, and faith.”

Please join us in welcoming Coach Brandon Raines to the DBCU family!

Our Basketball Philosophy

Basketball isn’t just a game; it’s a way of life. It teaches us teamwork, perseverance, and the importance of pushing our limits. At Daytona Beach Christian University Saraphim, our basketball philosophy is deeply rooted in our faith, and we strive to reflect the teachings of Christ in everything we do on and off the court. We believe that sports provide a unique platform to demonstrate Christ-like qualities such as humility, integrity, and love. Our players are encouraged to play with heart, show respect for opponents, and embody sportsmanship at all times. We aim to glorify God through our dedication, discipline, and the way we treat others, whether we win or lose. By fostering a culture of encouragement and support within our team, we create an environment where players can grow not only as athletes but also as individuals of strong character.
